Kananaskis Report

RSport Rally driver Scott Trinder and navigator Bob Trinder did not finish the final round of the Western Canadian Rally Championship. The Kananaskis Rally was held in Cochrane, Alberta on November 9, 2003.

The result at the event had no effect on their results in the Western Rally Championship; however, it may prove to have a dramatic effect on the teams standing in the 2003 North American and Canadian National Rally Championships respectively.

RSport Rally has won the 2003 Western Canadian Rally P4 Championship. The team also finished the 2003 Western Canadian Rally Championship 2nd overall in a production class car, the overall winner completed the season driving an open class rally car with a substantial horsepower advantage.

During stage 4 of the Kananaskis Rally the Trinder’s were on a .5km straight away heading downhill on ice and snow very fast into a medium right that opened to an easy right with an exposure left. After pitching the car into the corner Scott and Bob heard a bang – "it sounded like the rear rim hit a rock, I then had to give the car massive oversteer and full throttle just to keep it on the road. We slid at a 90’ angle to the road for at least 60 or 70 feet before stopping totally sideways fully blocking the road -- the car was as long as the road was wide. I went to put it into gear to move it out of the way but the car would not move at all, the rear differential had seized solid completely locking the back wheels. We were lucky it did not happen 2km earlier on a fast straight section where we were going flat out in 4th gear," says Scott.

RSport Rally’s Subaru was scheduled to depart Calgary the next day for the Rally of the Tall Pines based in Bancroft, Alberta. The team began work on repairs that night but soon realized they did not have all of the bits to make the necessary repairs to get the car on the train and to the eastern event.

"Our result in the 2003 Canadian National Rally Championship and North American Rally Championship respectively is now in the hands of our competitors, says Bob.

RSport Rally has had a very successful year and Scott has proven to be a formidable competitor in 4 championships. The teams current standing are as follows:

1st in the 2003 Western Canadian Rally P4 Championship

1st in the 2003 North American Rally P4 Championship

2nd in the 2003 Western Canadian Rally Championship Overall

2nd in the 2003 Canadian National Rally P4 Championship

"Once again I would like to thank all of our sponsors without you our seasons success would not have become a reality," says Scott
