RSport Rally driver Scott Trinder and father Bob won Open class in the regional portion of the Pacific Forest Rally and finished on the regional podium in 3rd position overall!
“On Rally registration day at 11:30am in Richmond BC, I received our new BC VIN# for our Japanese spec. Subaru Impreza WRX RA. The two previous days were spent getting the car licensed and the two weeks prior were spent feverishly prepping the car with Jarrett Helesic, Tony Latham and Bill Westhead. We had no time to check things twice and entered the Rally with a totally untested, unproven, and never driven right-hand drive rally car! Finishing recce was a major feat for us and completing the event accomplished our main goal, as well as offering some valuable shake down time for the car,” says Scott.
Scott found the early stages of the Rally challenging. A combination of half-worn 6-year-old rubber and some of Merritt’s most slippery clay based stages did not work in the teams favor. “Scott came very close to some big stumps and ditches on my side of the car. I am glad he drove with the intention of learning right hand drive and not stage by stage comparing times with the other cars,” says Bob.
The team’s times on the early stages were very slow but as the day progressed the weather cleared offering dryer stages. The dry stages and Scott’s increased comfort level in the right seat saw the team begin to climb through the pack. “I am totally happy with our result.” It’s a huge accomplishment that the car finished without any mechanical or electrical problems, and also that Scott didn’t have any major driving errors.
