Knox Mountain Hill Climb

As many WCRA club members headed to Hinton for the Big Horn Rally on the May long weekend, Scott Trinder went to the 44th annual Knox Mountain Hill Climb in his 1986 Toyota Corolla sponsored by Open Road Toyota, Auto Parts Plus, Richmond Auto Body, R.M.T. Contracting, & Ad-Print "the decal people." Knox Mountain is a paved hill climb event held annually in Kelowna BC. The road to the summit is approximately 3.2km long. Over 80 cars entered in this year's event!

Scott was happy with the performance of the new Toyota Corolla GTS although it recently was dynoed with only 112bhp at the wheels… "The car handled great and the gear ratios were perfect" said Scott. Due to specific modifications to the Corolla (different engine) Scott found himself in a class of tube framed, fiberglass shelled super-cars with slicks and more than double the horsepower. The Open Road Toyota was running on used Bridgestone Potenza street tires. Although lacking in power and grip, Scott managed to crest the hill with a personal best time of 2 min 10.5 sec. " I was stoked that the Corolla went faster than the Toyota Alltrack (2:15) and the Suzuki Swift GTI (2:12).

The weekend was a success for the Open Road Toyota team. They will be competing next month (June) at the Mountain Trails Rally in Cache Creek BC. For more information go to www.rallybc.com
