Rsport Rally driver Scott Trinder and father Robert have completed the Rim of the World Pro Rally finishing in 8th place overall, driving for Knight Motorsports Inc., in an Open class Subaru Impreza RS.
The car is phenomenal! The transmission is easy to adapt to and the suspension is solid,” says Scott.
RIM is known as one of the most challenging and fun events is the SCCA Pro Rally Calendar. “We jumped the car more on this event than I have done in all my rally’s combined says Robert (navigator).
Friday night (DAY 1) The team started 32nd on the road in a high horsepower car behind several two wheel drive production cars. The start order was based on a seeded draw. Subsequently the team lost a lot of time on Friday night catching the slower cars. The re-seed Friday was cancelled making it a challenge for the team to see where they were going due to the dust. “Friday night was dangerous. We could not see in front of the hood—the dust just hung there and we almost drove off a cliff at 10 miles per hour,” says Scott. On Saturday the team was re-seeded to 8th on the road.
Saturday (Day 2) The team suffered from an intermittent electrical short that was fixed later in the day. “Anything can happen at RIM and we were not going to give up,” says Scott.
The Subaru ran flawlessly for the one stage on Saturday where Scott turned on the in-car camera. This stage was the famous Leona stage and here the team was followed by the Speed Channel helicopter. The Trinder’s finished this stage 4th overall.
We would like to thank the entire Knight Motorsports team for presenting the opportunity for us to run at RIM, and I would also like to thank Dragon Optical for supplying the team with some cool shades and shirts.
